When driving a piercing, it is important to maintain proper hygiene and handling of jewelry and its surroundings. To begin, always wash your hands and never touch a belly ring so it will not get infected. For best results, always take your time and move with caution. If you follow these basic guidelines, you can enjoy your belly button ring and prevent infection.

  1. Disinfect the navel. Wash with antibacterial soap, then soak a cotton ball in peroxide and clean the area around the navel, but not to soak the ring or pouring peroxide into the hole. Allow area to air dry for several seconds.
  2. Turn the ball that holds the upper curve of the ring until it breaks (for a horseshoe belly ring.) Set aside. Take the second ball and the guide ring through the perforated leather. Ring Pull down and out until it is completely removed.
  3. Hold the body of the ring (closed ring). Press down against the ring finger so that it is flat on the surface of the finger. Use your thumb to apply light pressure at the center of the square where the ball joins the two curves of the ring in a circle closed.  Keep the pressure. The ball is held between two slots that allow both ends of the ring to "close." Slide the ring through the perforated leather and remove.
  4. Keep drilling. Use a fishing line; pull the plastic line through the opening in the skin and out the other end of the hole. By inserting the new jewelry, allowing the fishing line guide to the new jewelry. Due to the nature of how to corner and drilled a navel, it may be difficult to push the jewelry through the perforated leather. In some cases, the jewelry may feel lost within the folds of the navel. Fishing line help guide the ring or bar back so that you can set and use.
